International Opportunities

NO CURRENT OPENINGS - (Updated: 11/20/2012)

The Malaria Program at LJBI is offering opportunities for two foreign graduate or post-doctoral students to conduct activities in NIH-funded projects whose main focus is to study the role of nitric oxide in pathogenesis and therapeutics of cerebral malaria (CM) using the murine model of infection by Plasmodium berghei ANKA. The opportunities are for short-term stays (3-6 months), but extensions can be considered upon mutual interest and funding availability. The selected participants will be offered a monthly stipend (US$2,000.00 for graduates; US$3,000.00 for post-docs), health insurance and return air-ticket (Country of origin-San Diego, CA). LJBI will provide all the administrative support through the Institution’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program, as well as the physical and material resources necessary for the activities.

Graduate candidates must be enrolled in and pursuing studies (M.D. or Ph.D.) at a degree- or certificate-granting post-secondary academic institution in their Country of origin. Post-doctoral candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. within the past 3 years. Although no restriction will be imposed upfront in relation to the candidates’ current research project, preference will be given to candidates working on subjects with evident affinity with LJBI’s Malaria Program and that will more likely benefit of the stay.

Candidates will apply by submitting a short CV, a letter of intent with a description of the candidate’s skills and interests, and two reference letters (being one from the current supervisor, who should fully support the candidature). Candidatures should be submitted to hr@ljbi.org and Reference IO-LC in subject line.

Requirements:

This program requires the use of J1 Visas.
